Mahjongg Troubleshooting Q&A

Mahjongg Solitaire

Rules

Mahjongg Solitaire is an ancient Chinese game, which requires deep concentration and strategy. Player has to pair and remove tiles from the board. Two tiles can be removed, if they match the following conditions:

  1. The tiles are identical, or both tiles belong to Flower or Season Sets;
  2. Both tiles are free. The tile is free if it is not covered by any other tile and has no tiles on the left or on the right side.

The puzzle is solved if the board is empty. If there are no tiles to remove, player can shuffle tiles or undo moves.

Tiles

The tiles are divided into groups called Sets. These are three Suits, The Honor Sets,  and the Bonus Sets.
The Suits consist of tiles which are numbered from 1 to 9. The Bonus Sets are the Flower and Season Tiles. The Honor Sets are the Wind Tiles and the Dragon Tiles.
In traditional game, each tile appears four times in a game, with one exception. There are four different Flower Tiles and four different Season Tiles. All the Flower tiles match one another and all the Season Tiles match one another.
Some layouts in the Classic Mode of Mahjongg Artifacts games may have more than four tiles of each kind.

Suits Sets

Ball tiles (36 tiles)

Bamboo tiles (36 tiles)

Character tiles (36 tiles)

Honor Sets

Wind Tiles (16 tiles)

Dragon Tiles (12 tiles)

Bonus Sets

Flower Tiles (4 tiles)

Season Tiles (4 tiles)

Scores

Pairing two tiles from Suits brings 200 points, two Wind Tiles – 300 points, two Dragon Tiles – 400 points, two Season or Flower tiles – 100 points. Player wins additional score for pairing all four of a tile in a row, and for pairing tiles swiftly. Reverting moves does not take away any score points.

Strategy Tips

  1. Plan as many moves forward as possible
  2. Concentrate your efforts on longer rows and higher stacks
  3. Whenever four of a tile are available at once, remove them to free more tiles
  4. When three identical tiles are free, choose wisely, which pair to remove. The remaining tile must block as little important tiles as possible.

Solvability

The puzzle is always solvable.  Sometimes player needs a little luck to select the “correct” two tiles to match, as it is impossible to peek below the tiles. If you are stuck in the game, you can use shuffle, undo moves or replay the layout. Mahjongg Solitaire is a relaxation game, so there is no timer. Players gain bonuses for completing the level swiftly.
